The Experience

Peso da Régua is the gateway to the Douro Valley. From our central location, the entire region unfolds at your feet.

Peso da Régua is the capital of Port wine and the gateway to the Alto Douro Wine Region, the oldest demarcated and regulated wine region in the world, established in 1756 and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. With terraced vineyards, centuries-old wine estates and the river shaping the landscape, it is one of Portugal's most sought-after destinations.

    Getting to the Douro

Reaching Régua is part of the experience. By train, the Douro Line leaves Porto, from São Bento and Campanhã stations, and follows the river for about two hours, along one of the most beautiful railway journeys in Europe. By car, it is roughly 1h40 via the A4 motorway. Once in Régua, everything is close: Pinhão is 25 minutes away by train, and Lamego just a few kilometres south.

    When to Visit

The Douro Valley is beautiful in every season. Spring fills the terraces with green and blossom; summer brings long days for river cruises and wine tastings. But it is in September, during the grape harvest, that the region truly comes alive: many estates invite visitors to tread the grapes and share in the vintage. Autumn turns the slopes golden, and winter offers a quiet Douro of firesides and wine.
